Going Abroad
Reading about Tufts being in “the race for globally minded students” and so attractive to those studying abroad always makes me think of the efforts made to prevent my taking a semester abroad in my junior year at Jackson in 1962. The dean called me to warn that if I were to study abroad, it would probably prevent my making Phi Beta Kappa. I chose to go, spending six months in Israel through the Hiatt Program from Brandeis. It was a good decision and rather brave—and when I returned to Tufts, I still made Phi Beta Kappa in the fall of my senior year. I’m glad things have changed.

IQ Points
In reference to the letter regarding the summer 2004 cover, someone should tell your reader that it’s a scientifically proven fact that wearing your baseball cap backward reduces your IQ by only ten points. Perhaps young Blickstein was simply trying to give members of the Tufts Republican Club a fair handicap.
