Student Profiles

Jordyn Wolfand, E11, received a $3,500 stipend as part of the Summer Scholars Program, a university-wide initiative that offers research apprenticeships with faculty and clinical mentors to motivated undergraduates. Her senior thesis focused on the way nanoparticles of a carbon configuration called C-60, increasingly used in industry, move through soil.

Nicole Cherng graduated in 2010 and is now a medical student. The aspiring doctor from Westford, Massachusetts is an example of the ripple effect of philanthropy: her scholarship awards enabled her to work three years for Professor Sergei Mirkin, whose teaching and research have been supported by the endowed professorship he holds, the White Family Chair in Biology. This professorship, funded through the generosity of Tufts parents John and Penny White (J97P, A03P, A05P), benefited the Tufts researcher whose student now paves her own path in science.

Parent donor Profiles

Kim and Curtis Artis, A13P, knew from the beginning that they would become involved with Tufts-as regular tailgaters at their son's football games, and as parent leaders supporting the Parents Fund.

Joe Findaro, A78, A12P, sees his connection to Tufts as a lifelong experience.

John Jacobs, A09P, A11P, A15P, and Vivian Diller, A09P, A11P, A15P, are inspired by their children's growth and happiness to become Parents Fund donors.

Mara Sherwood-Katz, A14P, and Elias Katz,E76, A14P

Elias and his wife Mara Sherwood-Katz, A14P, generously contribute to the Parents Fund because they believe in the kind of ethos Tufts cultivates, Mara says.  “There are direct, palpable results.  You can see that what you give actually makes a difference.”

David and Marilyn O'Toole, A12P, wanted to make a gift toward health and fitness.

Vincent Vitiello, E86, A10P, E13P and Cecilia Tsao, J87, M91, A10P, A13P, want others to share their strong feelings for Tufts.

Parents are encouraged to support the university at all levels of giving. Leadership gifts qualify parents for membership in special donor recognition societies.
